History
2007
At
the start of the year, Sam Nixon discovered she'd been successful in her
application for DI, as June Ackland accepted Rod Jessop's marriage proposal (#
472); Honey was taken hostage by a Colombian drugs lord (# 477) and following a
scuffle with DC Nadir's 'undercover' girlfriend Kristen Shaw, was fatally shot
(# 478). News reached the Relief of Honey's death (# 484) and Kristen and Zain
were arrested (# 485). Nixon started her first day as DI, clashing with Manson
(# 481); PCs Keane and Noble dealt with a herd of sheep destined for an illegal
slaughter house (# 482); and after a year, the team finally tracked down missing
child Amy Tennant (# 483). Two days before taking early retirement, Ackland found
herself involved in a corruption investigation on the Aldbourne Estate
development which implicated DAC Hobbs and Supt. Heaton (# 486); Carver returned
to the station as a DS to track down a notorious drugs dealer (# 487); and after
23 years at Sun Hill, June (pictured) finally left the station to enjoy retirement in the
Cotswolds with Rod Jessop (# 489). This came after actress Trudie Goodwin - the
last remaining original cast member - decided to leave the series.
Episodic titles were
re-introduced to the series on 21st March, in Sweet Revenge [# 490], when
Uniform investigated a seedy web chat service. A ghost from Heaton's past
reappeared (Dead Men Don't Tell Lies [# 492]); professional and personal
boundaries began to blur between Heaton and press officer Mia Perry as they
worked together closely on a case (Daddy's Girl [# 494]); and Gold had to
deal with the wife of her married lover when he went missing (Consequences
[# 495]). Hunter and Turner brawled in CID following an incident in a nail bar,
with Meadows forcing Hunter to go back into Uniform for a couple of weeks (Pride
Before A Fall [# 497]); Webb punched Heaton after discovering he'd slept
with his girlfriend and Keane attacked her husband, CPS Lawyer Matt Hinckley,
after months of abuse became too much for her (...And Nothing But The Truth
[# 500]). PC Beth Green (pictured) joined the Relief, winding up Keane on her first day
(Baby Trade [# 502]); Hollis and Hunter investigated when a £15,000 necklace disappeared from a body in a sealed coffin
(Inner Demons [# 504]); and Noble was amused to come across a fan of
Hollis' podcast - 'Reg-flections' - whilst working on a case (Do Or Die
[# 507]).
Heaton was frustrated after
long-time nemesis Ray Moore was found dead, as new DC Grace Dasari joined the
team (Better Off Dead [# 509]); Meadows narrowly escaped death after
crashing into a builder's skip after swerving a masked man on the street (Judgement
Call [# 511]); and Turner and Masters investigated the murder of a
supermodel (A Model Murder: Parts I & II [# 512 & 513]). Sun Hill
and Barton Street police stations worked together to police a potentially
violent football match, as Sgt. Wright's husband was stabbed (Match Day Violence [# 514]); PCs Sally Armstrong and Billy Rowan
(pictured) joined the Relief, but tragedy struck as Rowan was murdered on his first shout
by a deranged man with a vendetta against the police (Cop Killer: Parts I
& II [# 512 & 513]); and it was revealed that PC Hardy had been
working undercover with the notorious Skens gang - he transferred permanently to
Trident after the successful completion of the operation (Death Or Glory
[# 519]).
Also that year, Smithy struggled
on his first day as Acting Inspector (Trail Of Blood [# 521]); the real
killer of model Cindy Statham was revealed to be a Crime Scene Photographer (Caught
By The Killer [# 523]); and PC Casper grew wary of new Sergeant Callum
Stone's (pictured) unorthodox methods (Good Cop, Bad Cop [# 524]), eventually opting
to leave the Force to start a new life in Ibiza (Deadly Secrets [#
527]). A missing teenager's body was discovered, uncovering a history of abuse in
the family (Deadly Shame: Parts I & 2 [# 532 & 533]); Hunter grew
closer to Monica Dreyfuss, the wife of a wealthy casino owner (Life Of Lies
[# 534]); and both were taken hostage when it was revealed that Dreyfuss was in
serious debt (Russian Roulette [# 535]). PC Kapoor left the station after
tying a European diplomat to the murder of a missing prostitute (Dead And
Buried [# 538]); new recruit PC Benjamin Gayle impressed Fletcher on his first day
after being cornered by a group of thugs (Media Frenzy [# 542]); and DS
Turner got lost in showbiz after appearing on TV Crime Show 'Wanted' (Rough
Justice [# 543]).
Dasari investigated when three
teenagers collapsed at a bar after taking uncut cocaine (Uncut Killer [#
546]); cheeky ladies' man PC Nate Roberts joined the Relief as DS Hunter left
the station (pictured) to join Special Ops (Collateral Damage [# 547]). Whilst out
on the beat, Hollis was stabbed by a prowler when attempting to help a woman
who'd been attacked by the same man (Line Of Fire: Part I [# 550]); and
Manson's methods came under scrutiny when the DPS investigated CID's conduct
into the case (Line Of Fire: Part II [# 551]). In a three-part special,
officers at Sun Hill prepared for the 'Rock Against Racism' concert, which could
be combined with unique content on The Bill's official website so that
viewers at home could solve the case (Moving Target: Part I, II & III
[# 539 - 541]); Webb went undercover to bust a drugs ring (Love, Lies And
Limos [# 554]); and Gayle and Roberts investigated a racial assault (Trapped
[# 555]). At the end of the year, Turner was horrified to discover that his
trusted friend and driver, Trevor Jones, was the dangerous drug dealer known as
‘The Postman’ (Blackmailed [# 556]); Meadows came across disgraced
ex-DC Zain Nadir in prison after an investigation into drugs smuggling (Zain:
Inside Out: Parts I & II [# 566 & 567]); and Sun Hill was brought to
a terrifying halt when PCs Armstrong and Stamp were held at gun point by two men
who were demanding the release of their girlfriends (Assault On Sun Hill:
Parts I & II [# 568 & 569]).
